The project delves into the realm of contemporary art by challenging traditional perceptions and exploring the boundaries of painting within the exhibition space. By embarking on an extensive investigation of painting surfaces, including the use of freestanding doors, the project aims to provoke viewers to reassess their assumptions about the essence of painting while contemplating the diverse interpretations and experiences that a painting can offer. The exhibition presents a compelling interplay of artistic approaches, each investigating a distinct aspect of the painting surface and inviting viewers to engage with the displayed works on various levels. Through meticulous design, wall painting, and strategic arrangement of art objects, the exhibition space itself becomes an integral part of the artistic experience, intensifying its immersive effect. By encouraging active exploration, interaction, and reflection, the project seeks to establish a profound connection between the viewer and the artwork, fostering a renewed appreciation for the surface of painting as a site of creative experimentation and innovation. It aims to expand the boundaries of contemporary painting and challenge viewers, encouraging them to reevaluate the significance of the painting surface (and its role in shaping the artistic encounter), objects, and what art is.

The installation itself embodies the essence of a painting. Its purpose is to evoke a profound sensation of immersing oneself within the painting, offering viewers an opportunity to explore it through bodily movement and spatial engagement. This deliberate intention aims to create a perplexing and transformative experience for the audience.
By meticulously crafting the installation to mimic the qualities of a painting, it becomes a living canvas that envelops the viewer. The strategic arrangement of elements and careful consideration of spatial design work in unison to transport individuals into a newly created world. As viewers navigate the installation, their movement and interaction with the space shape their encounter with the artwork, resulting in a unique and personalised exploration.
The intention behind this approach is to blur the boundaries between viewer and artwork, effectively dissolving the distinction between observer and observed. By allowing individuals to physically experience the painting, the installation invites them to delve deeper and engage with the artwork on a multi-sensory level. This transformative encounter prompts introspection, questioning preconceived notions of art and the immersive power it holds over our perceptions and emotions.

I am compelled to extend my painterly language beyond traditional canvases and explore the very space I will display them in. By creating a painting directly on the walls and incorporating the space itself as a surface, I seek to blur the boundaries between the artwork and its environment. This approach aims to transform the room into an integral part of the artistic expression, where the walls become just another surface.
This act of painting on the space establishes a cohesive connection between the room and the canvas works that will hang on its walls. The painted walls provide an additional layer of depth and context, enhancing the overall visual narrative of the exhibition. By harmonising the painted surfaces with the hanging canvases, I strive to create a symbiotic relationship, inviting viewers to engage with the artworks in a newly created world.
